Maggie Goes Hiking
Hey Doggie Lovers……It’s me, Maggie!
Sometimes, me and Daddy Earl go hiking. We go where there are lots of trails and creeks and trees and lots of those old dad-burned squirrels, which as you know, irritate the stuffing out of me.
I’m telling you when me and Daddy Earl go on these hikes…… we are one with nature! My sniffer is in overdrive. I’ve got to sniff every plant, flower, bush, and rock that I come across. And too, I’m sure you already know I’ve got to jump into all the creeks, because, it’s a lab thing. When we come to one, I sprawl out flat on my stomach right in the middle of the stream and relax for a minute. Then, I roll around and jump and leap through the water and jump back on the trail and after a few steps, I’m covered in mud. But, that’s okay. I’ve heard it’s good for the skin. Occasionally, I give Daddy Earl a big wet muddy lick, telling him how much I love him. Then, he can’t fuss at me too much when I muddy up his truck.
One time, my Daddy Earl fell on the trail. I was beside myself worrying about him. It was a good thing he wasn’t hurt, because I don’t know what I would have done. I keep bugging him to get a cell phone. He keeps saying “We would never use it.” I tell him, “We would if we needed to use it.”
Sometimes, two ladies down the street go on the hikes with us. They have dogs too. One of the dogs is a hound of some kind that could outrun a racehorse. He absolutely wears me out. I can’t keep up with him. Sometimes, I try to, but then I think about my Daddy Earl and how he might need me. Mostly I just stay close to him and stroll along, sniffing everything and chasing them dad-burned squirrels.
Sincerely,
Maggie
